The Bougainvillea is very suitable tree to use for Bonsai, with stunning (big) flowers in various colors. It originates in South America and is considered a (sub) tropical tree specie. Position: The Bougainvillea, being a subtropical tree, needs a relatively high minimum temperature in winter and prefers lots of light as well. Protect it from freezing temperatures.
Watering: Normal watering, misting is advisable as the tree likes high humidity.
Feeding: No specifics.
Pruning: To increase ramifications prune/pinch the tree regularly during the growth season. If you wish to grow thicker branches or a thicker trunk remove the flowers at all times, but do not prune the branches.
Repotting: The Bougainvillea needs to be repotted once every 2-3 years, and dislikes strong root pruning.
